Ranje ti Wout – “Goat Trail Rehabilitation (GTR)”
Lack of roads that are passable by passenger and crop transport vehicles is one of the biggest problems we have in NT. Many ‘roads’ are little more than goat trails, barely wide enough for a single person or an animal. These paths are what the people use to send their children many kilometers away to go to school, to carry their crops to the marketplace (nan maché) and to transport a sick person if needed. Hospitals and first aid stations are many miles away.
Our GTR project helps local workers renovate these trails turning them into a road that enables better access to transportation, markets, schools and health care. For years local villagers have been working to open new paths with garden tools. Workers are willing but tools are always in short supply. Funds are used to buy better tools to support the work and help them to open roads all around the village.
